Runners-up of Doubles Tennis Tournament
2005. Sridhar Krishna and Ravikumar Masilamani received Trophies
from Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam
A meeting was held on 3/4 to discuss about the Doubles
Tennis tournament:
Tournament Options: The team debated on whether should
we pick our own partner or pick in random (by lots) or go with Group A / Group B option. Group A / Group B option won the
vote.
Group A and B: All 30 players were split into two
Groups - Group A and Group B. (15 on each side). More experienced players were selected in Group A and (somewhat) less experienced
were selected in Group B. The selection was based on previous years' performance and results and co-players' review
:)
Team Partners Selection: The partners were selected
randomly by picking one player from Group A and one from Group B.
First Round: Out of the 15 Teams, opponents were again
selected at random. In total we have 7 matches for the first round and 1 team has a bye (direct entry to Second Round).
If we get two more members' participation, the 8th team would play against the new team and get qualified for the 2nd round.
1) All games that are supposed to be held on 3/17 are postponed to 3/18 (same time) due to
rain.
2) Second round selection is on debate right now. The coordinators and the players will be
meeting on 3/18 (after the game) and discuss on how to proceed. All players (including those who have qualified for the
2nd round) are welcome to this meeting and post their opinions. Thanks

QUARTER
FINALS
A meeting was held on 3/18/05 to discuss several options for Second Round (Quarter
Finals). Since 9 teams have been qualified for Quarter Finals, the required 4 teams for Semi-Finals will be selected by a
round robin basis. The groups were decided by lots. Following are the rules:
1. 9 teams will be split into 3 groups (Group A, B and C). 2.
Each group will play round-robin matches within themselves. In total there will be 3 matches per group 3.
The top 3 (one from each group) will be qualified for Semi-Finals. 4. Among the remaining
6, the best team will be considered as a 4th team. 5. The 4th team is selected from the
remaining 6 teams, based on percentage of the games won among the total number of games played in QF.
General Rules (Request): 1. The quarter finals need to be completed by 3/25. 2.
3/26 and 3/27 are reserve days to handle the unexpected. (Rain, etc.) 3. In addition, since
we will be playing at least 9 matches for Quarter Finals, a greater commitment is required from all the teams. 4.
Please keep checking your emails and the web site for updates. 5. Every team member must
commit to be a referee for at least 1 match.

Tournament Guidelines
This is a
men doubles tournament.
Any current
SFTS members are welcome to participate. Non-members, please contact SFTS Secretary before the match.
Depending
on the number of players, there will be several rounds before the finals.
All rounds
will be of knock-out type.
Every player would have the best of 3 sets to win and qualify to
the next round.
When either team
has reached six game wins, then a tie-break system would be adopted to decide the winner (a player who wins seven points with
a lead of two points, wins the game)
Players who are absent on a predetermined date will forfeit their game. The opponent of the player gets a walk-over
to the next round. The decision of the coordinator remains final in this matter.
All players
must wear appropriate tennis attire during the matches. Attires must be of light or toned-down colors so as not to distract
the opponents.
Each player
should bring in a new can of tennis balls and turn them over to the umpire before the start of the match. The accepted tennis
balls are Dunlop-Championship All-court.
Players will
bring in their own tennis racquets.
Every match
will have an umpire. Additionally there may be referee, linesman and scorers as agreed to between the umpire and the coordinator.
The rules,
as set by ITF, would be followed in all the matches. Deviations, if any, must be agreed to before the start of the match.
Players are
requested to switch off their mobile phones and not to be distracted by any external media during the course of the match.
Distraction of any kind caused by a player can call for disqualification and render the opponent as being the winner of the
match without any relevance placed on the results of the games played.
Please try to complete your second round (quarter finals) match by Sunday (3/26)
Send an
email to coordinators (Ravi Masilamany and Rad Narayanasamy) at least 2 days in advance before you play. This would give
the coordinators some time to organize.
Please show up at the appointed time and
play the match on the said date. If for any reason, beyond control, the match could not be played, the decision of the coordinators
is final.
In case of non-show at the pre-determined
and agreed time, the coordinators may declare a walkover to the other team who
had showed up.
The decision of the coordinator
on any matches may hinge on factors like (not necessarily the only factors) (a) Match could be postponed (b) The match
may be cancelled and a walkover declared to one team (c) The match may be cancelled and equal points may be allocated to
each team (d) Coordinators may decide to call for a re-match
A match will not be postponed or played again at a later date, if any of the opponents are
UNABLE to continue the game, due to Illness, Injury, Call from Work, family issues, etc.
If a game stops because of bad weather or other circumstances where both the teams are unable
to continue, the umpires / coordinators decision will be final.
